FlowMate - Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

FlowMate ("the app", "we", "our") is a personal automation tool that runs entirely on your device. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and what is shared with third parties.

1. Data We Do Not Collect

FlowMate does not operate any servers and does not transmit any of your personal data to us. We do not collect, store, or have access to:

  • Your name, email address, or account credentials
  • The content of your SMS messages or emails
  • The files you save or the API responses your flows process
  • Your location, contacts, or any other personal information

All automation workflows, node configurations, and execution logs are stored locally on your device in a private database that is not accessible to us.

2. Device Permissions Used

The app requests the following permissions solely to execute automation workflows you configure. No data accessed via these permissions leaves your device except as part of automations you explicitly set up (for example, sending an SMS or posting to an API you have configured).

SMS

  • RECEIVE_SMS / READ_SMS – Allows the SMS Trigger node to detect incoming messages that match keywords you configure.
  • SEND_SMS – Allows the Send SMS node to send a message to a phone number you have entered in the node settings.

Internet & Network

  • INTERNET – Used by API trigger and action nodes to make HTTP requests to URLs you configure, and by the email nodes to connect to mail servers you specify. Also used to load advertising (see Section 4).
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE – Checked before making network connections.

Email

If you use the Email Trigger or Send Email nodes, you enter your own IMAP/SMTP server credentials directly on your device. These credentials are stored locally in the app's private database and are used only to connect to your mail server. They are never sent to us.

File Storage

  • READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE – Used by the Check Attachment node to inspect files referenced in workflow context.
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 9 and below) – Used by the Save to Phone node to write files to your Downloads folder.

Background Execution

  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE / WAKE_LOCK – Keeps the automation service running reliably while processing workflows (for example, waiting for an email or API response).
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED – Reserved for future use to optionally restart enabled workflows after a device reboot.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS – Displays a persistent notification while the background service is running, as required by Android.
  • REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS – Allows you to exempt FlowMate from battery optimisation so that scheduled workflows run on time.

3. Data Stored on Your Device

The following information is stored locally in the app's private database (not accessible to other apps or to us):

  • Workflow names and enabled/disabled status
  • Node configurations you enter (URLs, phone numbers, message templates, mail server settings)
  • Execution logs and timestamps
  • API response cache values used for change-detection (staleness checking)

You can delete all logs at any time from the app's Settings screen. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)

FlowMate displays banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use data to serve personalised or non-personalised ads in accordance with Google's own privacy policy. This is outside our control.

For more information on how Google uses data from apps that use AdMob, please visit:

5. Third-Party Services You Configure

When you configure a workflow to connect to an external service (for example, a webhook URL, an API endpoint, or an email provider), data processed by that workflow may be sent to that service. You are responsible for reviewing the privacy policies of any third-party services you choose to connect to via FlowMate.

6. Children's Privacy

FlowMate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

8. Contact

If you have any questions about this privacy policy or the app's data practices, please contact us at privacy@seanmccammon.com.
